Siem Reap

Got the early minibus from bangkok on Tuesday morning, hoping to get a jump on the buses but ended up getting left at a restraunt near the border waiting for them anyway. Got shifted round a few buses from there and then on towards Siem reap. The road was very rough, worse than the back race on the farm at home, and about half way we came across a bridge which was being repaired. With no alternative but to wait we sat sweating for 6 hours before continuing on to the guesthouse, arriving at 5am. Slept till 11 then went to the local markets and got a painting. Thursday was spent looking at al the amazing temples Saw most of the major ones but we had enough by about 3 and went back to the guesthouse.

Caught a bus to Phnom Penh the next morning and travelled twice the distance as Poipet(border)-Siem reap in about 5 hours and then got mobbed as we got off the bus, about 30 people puling at our clothes and trying to get us to go to their guesthouse. luckily we had organized one in Siem Reap and got our bags carried and everything.

Spent that afternoon looking around the Golden Palace and Toul Sleng museum. Palace was beautiful but museum was quite sickening. It described the stuff Pol Pot and his soldiers did to people. Not a nice history lesson.

Today we went to some more markets and had a look around. Catch the bus to Sihanoukville in the south soon for a couple of days on the beach. Should be good!

Chiang Mai

Running out of time on the NET off on a hillside trek for two days, lots of markets here, bought an imitation Rolex to go with the suit. Talked to a guy from Warwick, near Birmingham yesterday. Hard case but he swears loads. We go had a horrible bus trip here, toilet stank and roof leaked for a bit but it was cheap so I think we are on the same bus back. Will try to get more pics up and explain the ones there soon.

Bangkok

Well we have survived the flight and our travels are now underway. The drive into Bangkok was amusing with the driver running to the back of the bus a few times to kick start the air conditioning. It is quite hot and humid here and poured with rain at aboiut 4pm. Rode on a tuktuk today for 20 baht or about a dollar NZ and he took us to a couple of monuments and a couple of stores, one of which sold me a  cashmere suit with shirt and 2 ties for 7000 baht (350NZ) tailor made to fit as well. Should look pretty darned smart.

The cellphone does not appear to be workling here so I might have to get someone back homne to call vodafone and have a chat with them. Will send one of you an email anyway. We are off to Kanchanaburi to see the Bridge over the river Kwai and some floating markets tomorrow, then up to Chiang Mai later in the week. Will try to get some pics up soon.

Oh yeah and andreas gone and gotten hair extensions. They look a bit dodgy so she might come back to the UK with no hair. They put them in down a dimly lit alley with a candle to soften the glue. The underneath is a bit green too. Should all look good though once she gets it cut and coloured.
